For Rose Mary Walls, I don’t believe that she has many motherly aspects at all. He was obsessed about getting really rich, really fast by finding gold. Rex has a hate for “Boring” jobs which normal people would get. To me, it doesn’t seem like he is doing the job he has entitled himself to. He feels like everything in the family is his responsibility. Rex takes it upon himself to leave his old life and entitle himself to the role of the “Man of the family”. Rex quit the airforce where he was previously working, “Because he wanted to make a fortune for his family, and you couldn’t do that in the military”(Walls 27). Having met each other, the couple both leave their old lives. Rose Mary Walls and Rex Walls try to keep themselves in check based on who they think they have to be. What society says a family should look like The role of the man and women is very separate and distinctive. As The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is based in the mid 20th century, I can see that gender inequality is very prevalent. ![]()
